New England style extension & renovation, Itchenor, West Sussex

Built in the 1930s with later additions in the 1960s, the house didn’t immediately call to mind the distinctive colonial style of New England.

To get the look, we added a second storey to part of the house, topped with a dormer roof, and built a glazed porch. We adapted the clapboard style using a mix of craft, cunning and innovation: first, we insulated the exterior walls and then covered them in the famous weatherboard style for a winning combination of New England grace and old England warmth.
